Santushto bhaaryayaa bhartaa bhaaryaa bhartraa tathaiva cha
Yasminneva kule nityam kalyaanam tatra vai dhruvam

Where women are propitiated and respected there the devatas (celestials) abide happily. Where they are not honoured no sacrifices or rituals (kiriyaah) will bear fruit.

Those clans will perish whose women grieve and where they do not grieve such clans will prosper always.

Therefore one who wishes to prosper and accumulate wealth should please women of the household  by means of  ornaments, fine clothes and good food on auspicious occasions and during festivals.

Those clans will  definitely prosper and be full of joy where the husbands are content with their wives and the wives are content with their husbands.

சாதுர்மாஸ்யத்தின் முக்கியத்துவம்
சாதுர்மாஸ்யம் என்றால் என்ன?.
ஆஷாட(ஆடி) சுக்ல தசமியிலிருந்து கார்த்திகை சுக்ல பௌர்ணமி வரையிலான நான்கு மாத காலம் சாதுர்மாஸ்ய புண்ணிய சுபகாலம் எனப்படும். சிராவணம், பாத்ரபாதம்(புரட்டாசி), ஆஸ்வீனம்(ஐப்பசி), கார்த்திகை ஆகிய* நான்கு மாதங்கள் இதில் அடங்கும். இந்த நான்கு மாதங்கள் திரு மஹாவிஷ்ணுவின் வழிபடுவதற்கு மிகவும் உகந்ததாகவும், விரைவில் பலன் கிட்டக் கூடியதாகவும் கருதப்படுகிறது.

மஹாவிஷ்ணுவின் வராஹ அவதாரத்தின் பெருமையை விவரிக்கும் வராஹ புராணத்தில், சாதுர்மாஸ்யத்தின் மகத்துவம் பற்றி வராக மூர்த்தியும்,பூமா தேவி இடையே ஒரு ருசிகரமான சம்பாஷணை கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒரு முறை, பூமாதேவி, அறியாமை, அற்ப ஆயுள்,பிறவிப் பிணி இவற்றுடன் கலியுகத்தில் பிறந்தவர்களைப் பற்றி மிகவும் கவலைப்பட்டு, சிந்தனையுடன் வராகமூர்த்தியை அணுகி, - "பிரபு! இவர்கள் கலியுகத்தில் தங்களுடைய குறைகளிலிருந்து பூரணமாக விடுபட்டு நலமுடனும், வளமுடனும் வாழ தாங்கள் தான் வழி காட்ட வேண்டும்.  இக்கலியுகத்தில் பிறவி எடுத்த அனைவரின் நிறை, குறைகளை தாங்கள் நன்கு அறிவீர். ஆகையால் அதிக சிரமமில்லாமல் அதே சமயம் முழு பலனை அளிக்கக்கூடிய பிரார்த்தனை முறையை அருளி இவர்களை ரட்சியுங்கள்" என்று வேண்டி நின்றாள்.

அதைக் கேட்ட ஸ்ரீ வராகமூர்த்தி அருள் ததும்பும் புன்னகையுடன் - " தேவி, வருடத்தில் நான்கு மாதங்கள் புண்ணிய சுபகாலமாக கருதப்படுகிறது. இந்த சுபகாலத்தில் செய்யப்படும் தானம், விரதம், ஜபம், ஹோமம் அனேக நன்மைகளை தரவல்லது. மற்ற மாதங்களில் செய்யப்படும் புண்ணிய காரியங்களை விட, இந்த நான்கு மாத காலத்தில் செய்யப்படும் நற்செயல்கள் பலமடங்கு பலன்களை அளிக்கும்." என்று அருளினார்.

अस्ति प्रियतमः कालः चातुर्मास्याभिधो मम ।
दानं व्रतं जपो होमः तत्रानन्तगुणं स्मृतम् ।। वराह 1.16
मासेष्वन्येषु यत्किञ्चित् क्रियते मम तोषणम् ।
ततोप्यनन्तगुणितं चातुर्मास्ये न संशयः ।। वराह 1.17
அஸ்தி ப்ரியதம​: கால​: சாதுர்மாஸ்யாபி⁴தோ⁴ மம |
தா³னம்ʼ வ்ரதம்ʼ ஜபோ ஹோம​: தத்ரானந்தகு³ணம்ʼ ஸ்ம்ருʼதம் ||  வராஹ 1.16
மாஸேஷ்வன்யேஷு யத்கிஞ்சித் க்ரியதே மம தோஷணம் |
ததோப்யனந்தகு³ணிதம்ʼ சாதுர்மாஸ்யே ந ஸம்ʼஸ²ய​: ||  வராஹ 1.17
இதைக் கேட்டு பூமா தேவி - " ஹே பிரபு, பன்னிரண்டு மாதங்களில் ஏன் இந்த நான்கு மாதங்கள் மட்டும் புண்ணிய மாதங்களாக கொள்ளப்படுகிறது.? தயவு செய்து அதற்கான காரணத்தை விரிவாக எடுத்துரைக்க வேண்டும்." என்று வினவினார்.

ஸ்ரீ வராகர் அதற்கு, தேவி கேள் - "ஆஷாட (ஆடி) மாதத்திலிருந்து தொடங்கி மார்க்கசீர்ஷ (மார்கழி) மாதம் வரை உள்ள ஆறு மாத காலம் தட்சிணாயனமாக*வும், புஷ்ய (தை) மாதத்திலிருந்து ஜேஷ்ட (ஆனி) மாதம் வரை உள்ள ஆறு மாத காலம் உத்தராயண புண்ய காலமாகவும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.  பூமியின் இந்த ஒரு வருட காலமானது தேவர்களுக்கு ஒரு நாளாகும். அந்த நாளில் புஷ்ய மாதத்திலிருந்து ஜேஷ்ட மாதம் வரையிலான காலம் நாளின் பகல் பொழுதாகவும், ஆஷாட மாதத்திலிருந்து மார்க்கசீர்ஷ மாதம் வரையிலான காலம் நாளின் இரவுப் பொழுதாகவும் தேவர்களுக்கு அமைகிறது."

"ஒரு சமயம், மேரு மலையின் சிகரத்தில் அமர்ந்திருந்த பொழுது,  தேவர்கள் அனைவரும் - "பிரபு, இரவு பொழுதாகி விட்டது.  நாங்கள் செல்லுவதற்கு எங்களுக்கு விடை கொடுங்கள்" என்றனர்.

அச்சமயம், கருநிறத்தில் மினுக்கும் வெள்ளாடையுடன், கரத்தில் பரசு (கோடாலி) வுடன்  ஒரு பெண்மணி என் முன் வந்தாள். என்னை நமஸ்கரித்து, - "பிரபு வராக மூர்த்தி, என் பெயர் ராத்திரி. இராப்பொழுதின் அபிமானியாக இருந்து வருபவள். இந்நேரத்தில் எவ்விதமான மங்கள சுப செயல்களும் நடைபெறுவதில்லை. அசுபமானவள் என்று என்னை எல்லோரும் வெறுத்து ஒதுக்கிறார்கள். இவை எல்லாம் எனக்கு மிகவும் வேதனையையும் வருத்தத்தையும் தருகிறது. இப்படியே உயிர் வாழ்வதில் எந்தவொரு பயனும் இருப்பதாக எனக்கு தெரியவில்லை. இந்த வேதனையையும், வருத்தத்தையும் என்னால் தாங்க முடியவில்லை, அதனால் வாழ்க்கையை முடித்துக் கொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன். நீங்கள் அருள்புரிந்தால் மட்டுமே நான் உயிர் வாழ்வேன்" என்று கூறி நின்றாள்.

தேவர்களும் -" பிரபு! ராத்திரி தேவி தன் மனவருத்தம் நீங்கி மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் வாழ  தாங்கள் கருணை புரியுங்கள் என்று பிரார்த்தனை செய்தனர்.

நானும் (ஸ்ரீ வராகரும்) தேவர்களின் பிரார்த்தனையை ஏற்று ராத்திரி தேவிக்கு வரம் அளித்தேன்.

நான், (ஸ்ரீ வராக மூர்த்தி) ராத்திரி தேவியிடம் - "உன் வருத்தத்தை போக்கி நீ மகிழ்வுடன் வாழ உனக்கு வரமளிக்கிறேன். ஒரு நாளின் இரவுப் பொழுதை மூன்று யாமமாக பிரித்து, (ஒரு யாமம் = இரண்டு மாதம்) அதில் முதல் இரண்டு யாமம் அதாவது 4 மாதங்கள், இனி மேல் எனக்கு பிரியமானதாக ஆகும். இந்த நான்கு மாதங்கள் சாதுர்மாஸ்யம் என்று அழைக்கப்படும். சாதுர்மாஸ்யத்தில் செய்யப்படும் புண்ணிய தர்ம காரியங்கள் நிறைந்த நன்மைகளை அளிக்கும். சிராவணம், பாத்ரபதம், ஆஸ்வீனம், கார்த்திகை ஆகிய நான்கு சாதுர்மாஸ்ய மாதங்களில் நற்செயல்களினால் விளையும் புண்ணியமானது  நாளுக்கு நாள் கூடுதல் காணும். இக்காரணத்தினால் தான் கடைசி மாதமான கார்த்திகை அனைத்து விதங்களிலும் மிகுந்த நன்மையளிக்கும் மாதமாக கருதப்படும் " என்று அருளினேன். இதைக் கேட்டு ராத்திரி தேவி மிகுந்த மகிழ்வுடன் தன்னுடைய வந்தனத்தை சமர்ப்பித்து தன் இருப்பிடம் சென்றாள்.

"ஒ தரணி(பூமா) தேவி, அப்பொழுதிலிருந்து இந்த நான்கு சாதுர்மாஸ்ய மாதங்களும் எனக்கு மிகவும் பிரியமானதாகும். புண்ணிய தீர்த்தங்களில் நீராடுவது, தானம் செய்வது, விரதம் மேற்கொள்ளுவது, ஹோமம், யக்ஞங்களை நடத்துவது, ஜபம் செய்வது போன்ற புண்ணிய தர்ம செயல்களை செய்பவர்களுக்கு நான் மிகுந்த நன்மைகளை அளிக்கிறேன்." என்று அருளினார்.

சாதுர்மாஸ்யம் பிரபு நாராயணர் யோக நித்ரையில் ஆழ்ந்து போகும் காலமும் ஆகும். யோக நித்திரையில் ஆழ்ந்து போகுதல் என்றால் நாராயணன் மானிடரைப் போல் நித்திரையில் ஆழ்கிறார் என்ற அர்த்தம் அல்ல. தேவர்கள் எல்லோரும் இமைப் போதும் தூங்காமல் இருப்பவர்கள். அப்படியிருக்க, தேவர்களைப் படைத்த இப்பிரபஞ்சத்தின் காவலரான நாராயணர் எப்படி  உறங்க முடியும்? ஆகையால் நித்திரையில் ஆழ்வது என்பது கடவுளின் ஒரு திருவிளையாடல் ஆகும்.

ஸ்ரீதரர், ஹ்ருஷீகேசர், பத்மநாபர் மற்றும் தாமோதரர் என்னும் தன் நான்கு திருவடிவங்களில் பிரபு நாராயணனே சாதுர்மாஸ்ய மாதங்களின் முக்கிய வணங்குதற்குரிய தெய்வமாவார்.

பக்தியை மேலும் அதிகரித்துக் கொள்ள சாதுர்மாஸ்ய காலம் ஒரு அருமையான வாய்ப்பாவதோடு மோட்சப் பிராப்தி பெறுவதற்கான வழியின் முதல் படியாகவும் அமைகிறது. நம்முடைய சாஸ்திரங்கள் கீழ்க்கண்ட பத்து புண்ணிய தீர்மானங்களை (நியதிகளை) சாதுர்மாஸ்யத்தில் நாம் கடைப்பிடிக்க வேண்டும் என்று விதித்து உள்ளது.

ஒவ்வொரு நாடும் , அதன் கடற்கரையில் இருந்து 12 நாட்டிகல் மைல் தூரத்தைத் தன் எல்லையாக்கிக்கொள்ளலாம் . 12 நாட்டிகல் மைல் என்பது உத்தேசமாக 22.2 கி. மீ. தூரம் . இந்த 22 கி. மீ. தூரத்துக்கும் முதலாளி அந்த நாடு தான் . ஆனால் , இந்த வழியாக பிற நாட்டுக் பயணக் கப்பல்கள் போன்றவை செல்லலாம் . ஒருவேளை 22 கி. மீ.க்குள் இன்னொரு நாட்டின் எல்லை வந்தால் என்ன செய்வது ? அதுதான் நமக்கும் இலங்கைக்கும் உள்ள பிரச்னை .

இந்தியாவுக்கும் இலங்கைக்கும் இடையே உள்ள தூரம் சுமார் 30 கி. மீ.தான் . இரண்டு நாட்டின் கடல் எல்லைகளும் ஒன்றின் மீது ஒன்றாக இருக்கின்றன . இத்தகைய சூழலில் இரு நாடுகளும் தங்களுக்குள் பேசி எல்லையை ஆளுக்குப் பாதியாக எடுத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் .
'எனக்கு 22 கி. மீ. தேவை இல்லை . கொஞ்சம் போதும் ' என நினைத்தால் பிரச்னை இல்லை . சிங்கப்பூர் , ஜோர்டான் போன்ற நாடுகள் எல்லாம் ' எங்களுக்கு 6 கி. மீ. தூரம் போதும் ' என விரும்பி ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு இருக்கின்றன . இரண்டு நாடுகளுமே எனக்கு அதிகம் இடம் வேண்டும் என குடுமிப்பிடி சண்டை போட்டால் நிலைமை சிக்கலாகும் .

இந்த 22 கிலோ மீட்டரையும் தாண்டி இன்னும் ஒரு 22 கி. மீ. தூரத்தை நாடுகள் தங்கள் ' கண்காணிப்பில் ' வைத்திருக்கலாம் .இது பெரும்பாலும் போர்கள் அண்டை நாடுகளிலிருந்து வரும் ஆபத்து போன்ற சிக்கல்களுக்காக ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டது . கடலில் ரோந்து போக வேண்டும் , தீவிரவாதிகள் ஊடுருவல் இருக்கிறதா என்பதைக் கண்காணிக்க வேண்டும் என்றால் இந்த எல்லையைப் பயன்படுத்தலாம் .

இந்த இரண்டு எல்லைகளையும் தாண்டி , மூன்றாவதாக ஓர் எல்லையும் உண்டு . அது பொருளாதார எல்லை . கரையில் இருந்து சுமார் 393 கி. மீ. தொலைவில் உள்ள எல்லா கடல் வளங்களும் அந்த நாட்டுக்கே சொந்தம் . வேறு நாடுகள் கப்பல் ஏறி வந்து உரிமை கொண்டாடமுடியாது . மீன் பிடிப்பது, பெட்ரோல் எடுப்பது போன்ற சகல பொருளாதார உரிமைகளுக்கும் கடிவாளம் அந்தந்த் நாட்டிடமே . இதற்கு மேலும் எல்லையை நீட்டிக்க விரும்பினால், சர்வதேசக் குழுவிடம் அனுமதி பெற வேண்டும் .

* 1,459 - க்கு பின்னால் 15 பூஜ்யங்களைப் போடுங்கள் . அதுதான் கடலின் எடை . பூமியின் மொத்த எடையில் இது வெறும் 0.022 சதவிகிதம்தான் !
* 90 சதவிகித எரிமலைகள் கடலில்தான் இருக்கின்றன .
* 6,400 கி. மீ. நீளமுள்ள அமேசான் நதி அட்லாண்டிக் கடலில் விநாடிக்கு 35 லட்சம் கன அடி பாய்கிறது . இந்த இடத்தில் கடல் தண்ணீர் உப்புக் கரிக்காது !

Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, has gifted an imposing 16-foot-high statue of Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of education and wisdom, to Washington DC.

The goddess' statue, on top of a lotus, stands tall a block away from the Indian Embassy in front of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

Hindus constitute just three per cent of the Indonesian population. A little over a mile from the White House, the statue is yet to be formally inaugurated, but has already become an attraction for city residents and large number of tourists who visit the city every day.

"Devi Saraswati is one of the Goddesses in Hinduism, the primarily practised religion among Balinese people in Indonesia, which itself is the world's biggest Muslim-majority country. My sashtanga namaskarams to our Periya Perumal Sriranganathan and our Periya Pirattiyar Sriranganayaki Thayaar

On the final day of the Theppotstavam, Namperumal starts from the moolsthanam and goes to the Theppam mandapam where Thirumanjam is performed for the Lord along with vedic chants.

On this final day of Teppostavam, I state yet again the importance of Teppam. Nachiyar describes the Lord as the Thoni, - float- with which we can cross the ocean of sorrow or samsaram.

Thunba kadal pukku vaikundhan enbathor

Thoni peraathuzhalkinren

To light the procession, a "Ney Pandam", which is a torch burnt with ghee, is used. This is called the "Pantha Kakshi". What is the significance of ghee? Thirumangai Alwar refers to Srirangam as

Panju ser maligai

Needagil pugayum maraiyor

Senjisol velvipugayum kamayam

Then arangame!

Meaning, the mansions of Srirangam are always surrounded by "Akil" perfume, the smoke from Yagna kundas.  So, can there be anything less than aromatic ghee for Azagiya manavalan's torch? The smell of ghee even transcends our senses and leaves us thinking about pongal, sakkarai pongal and other delicacies for a moment before guilt sinks in! But isn't Srirangam, Sukranin iruppidam?

A distinct feature of the procession on the 9 th day of the Theppotsavam is that unlike the other days (when the Lord strolls only through the Utthirai and Chithirai streets), He also moves through Teppakulam Street which is not part of the Agraharam!  He accepts the offerings of all the residents of the street. By this gesture, He sends a message that one's birth alone does not distinguish a person. Irrespective of which varna one is born, if he/she is a true devotee, the Lord commands all his adiyars (followers) to accept him//her as one of their own and engage in giving and taking from him/her.

In the words of Thondaradipodi Alwar:-

Pazhudhila ozhugal aattrup

pala sethupethi maargal

Eekulathavargalelum yam adiyaaraagil

Thozhumeeneer kodumin kolmin!

Yendru ninorum okka

Vazhipada arulinaay pol

Madhil thiruvarangathaane!

The Aazhwar continues that even if one has studied the four Vedas and is a high born, if he mistreats His devotees, in just a second he will fall down to the lowest form of srushti.

Amara orr angam aatrum

vedamor naangum othi

Thamargalil thalaivaraay, saathi anthanargalelum

Noomargalai pazhippar aagil,

Nodippathorr alavil,

Aange avargal thaam pulaiyar polum

Arangamaanagarulaane!

As Periazhwar says -

Sollalaam pothu un namam ellaam,

Yennalam pothu un namam ellam

"Whenever I speak, let me utter your namam; whenever I think let me think your namam"

Let us join Periazhwar and pray to The Lord that we may be given the ability to think and utter his namam all the time whatever might be the circumstance or struggles that we find ourselves in.

Azagiyamanavalanin Seventh Day Utthsavam (Thiruppalli-Odam-Thirunaal. Theppa-utthsavan)

My Saashtaanga Namaskrams to our Namperumal and Sri Ranganachiyar.

On the 7th day of the Theppotsavam, our Azhagiya Manavalan goes to Thiru Kottaram or granary, where the grains are stored. As a customary practice, He inspects and verifies the produce kept there similar to an earthly king taking stock of his grains. Not long ago, Srirangam was known for its lush paddy fields in which lotus bloomed!  Periyalwar describes Srirangam as

Uram petra malar kamalam

Ulaganlandha sevadi pol uyarndhu kaatta

Varamputra kathirchennel

Thaal seyndhu thalai vanakkum than arangame..

The lotus growing in the paddy fields stand as tall as the foot of Vamana that measured the three worlds in Vamana Avataram. The fertile paddy, weighed down by the grains, bends down as if to salute Him. With such bountiful and prosperous produce, it was no wonder that Arangathu Amudan himself had to inspect the granary and keep it in order.

After the visit to the Thirukottaram, He goes around the Utthirai streets. As He strolls through the streets, one cant but notice the unmatched beauty of His angas; His broad chest, body that glitters like emeralds, broad shoulders, eyes akin to a lotus, lips like corals and a beautiful crown.

Paayum neer arangan thannul

Paambanai palli kondu

Mayanar thiru nal marbum,

Maragadha uruvum tholum

thooya thamarai kangalum

Thoovar ithazh pavala vaayum

Aaya seer mudiyum dhesum

Adiyaror gagalame

On seeing Azhagiya Manavalan's beauty, Nachiyar exclaims thus:-

Ezhil udaya ammanaimeer,

Yen aranganthinamudhar,

Kuzhal ayagar vaazh azhagar

Kan Azhagar

koppoozhil ezhu kamala poovazhagar

Yen Maanaar

Yennudiya kazhal valazhathamum

Kazhal valaye aakineerey!

As we relish the blissful beauty of His Thirumudi (Crown), we suddenly notice His bright face and our eyes are lost in the beautiful smile on His lips.

Aamnaaya gandhi rudith spurithaadharoshtam

Aasraavilekshana manukshana Mandhahasam

Then, our gaze moves upwards to the decorative Kasturi Thilakam on His forehead. Even the Peethambaram that He wears adds so much beauty to His form and enamors us; it looks so delicate and soft on Him with its glorious texture and colour. We are suddenly distracted by the sound of melodious jingles. It is the sound of his Thanga Golusu (Golden Anklet). It adds a mesmerizing touch to his stride as He walks swiftly, yet gracefully, conversing with Sridevi and Bhoodevi Thaayar with happiness shining on His face!! All that I can say is that a life time is not enough to describe the beauty of Azhagiya Manavalan. One has to be there to experience Him. Even then you never get satisfied with His darshan, as the thirst for Him remains quenched for only so long as you are in front of Him!!! He makes you want to run back to Him all the time!
